This is a rare opportunity for The Art Institute of Chicago to showcase all three versions of Hokusai’s iconic The Great Wave from its collection. In this exhibition, the Art Institute curates ukiyo-e print works by renounced Hokusai, Utamaro, Sharaku, and other printmakers through lenses of “connosseurship” to introduce ways to appreciate ukiyo-e prints. Viewers will learn how to identify and closely examine differences in works of the same design, and gain insight into the intricacies of the dating, authentication, repair, and commercial production of Japanese woodblock prints.
The exhibition is free with museum admission. General Admissions from $14 USD.
